Thursday was a pretty good day. We drove to Klepp to sample the local food. Farse in a bun, you know. Tastes like sausage, and lasts the rest of the day. But it’s true, you really need some fried onion and mustard on it for it to shine. Let no one tell you otherwise.
After recording the drums for the day, we buggered off, and went to see The Shock!. Great concert. They rock.
Now, here’s a new demotrack and a couple of pictures:
Our myspace page has finally been updated. About time! Since we’re total goofballs when it comes to colour and stuff ourselves, we got help from Elina.
Allright. We got drums done on two songs today. That’s a new record. Go Marius! Actually, we’ve reached the goal of recording drums for 4 tracks this week, but now we’re getting ambitious and are looking ahead for maybe 2-3 more. Will we make it? Or will Marius die violently while gardening, spontaneously combust, get stuck in traffic etc.? Beats me.
In the act of not knowing wheter Marius will spontanously combust
Currently uncombusted, unstuck in traffic
Meanwhile, while eating breakfast, the floor got all crumby-like. No problem, there’s kaboom for that shit:
We got down the drums for one track yesterday, and got started on another so we were well pleased.
Here is a short demo clip of the track we’re going record drums for today. Its called “Some kind of candy”, and is apparantly about the mating habits of certain nematode worms. I guess that’s rocknroll nowadays. Always with the nematode worms.
Yesterday I remembered to bring slippers. Marvellous feeling. Still, Marius had better things to do, and the rest of us were left lounging about the place, eating his share of the mandarins.
We also tried out some guitar sounds. Here is what we tried:
Boss effect board to old Vox AC 30
Maxed out Universal Audio tube preamp to Vox
Max gain and volume on an 80’s Regent amp (that was loud)
Boss board to maxed out Regent
DI signal to Logic, and put on an amp sim.
Guess what came out best?
Well, it was actually the amp sim. Who would’ve thunk it? More experimentation is needed later, though. We know a guy, see, and he’s got these boxes, right. We’re gonna try that out.
So yesterday we just recorded a guitar track straight into the computer. Then it crashed and we had to do it again.
Here’s what that looks like:
Again, please
Later we went to a bar and talked about how to become big in Japan, and how vinyl LPs are making a comeback. They really are, you know.
The trailer to Fredrik Hana’s new short film “Kjærlighetens forhud” (”foreskin of love”) is set to the autoplasma track “Jazz sucks, girls f-ck”. We’re told the finished film might contain bits of another new song. Oliver plays in it too. Check it out.
All right, so we got the drums and bass down for the first track. Great feeling. We were sidehugging afterwards, being polite people, and respectful of each other’s private space. And stuff.
Also we went to the shop and bought the following:
Here’s a couple of pictures from the first day at the studio. Today we started setting up sound for the drums and bass, and got started on the first song.
Tomorrow I will bring slippers.
So tomorrow we’re starting the recording of the new album. We’ve been writing since August, and I think it’s going to be fun. We’ll try to document as much as possible of the process, from start to finish. Hopefully we’ll find a place to rehearse too, so we can get a show on the road. All the new songs are meant to be played live, which is a first.
This will be the first time we’ll attempt to do all the recording in a studio, so I’m pretty psyched. I’ve been to the place, and they have lots of knobs. Really, lots.
